Our Roots
How it all Started
The Angry Chicken isn’t just a food truck — it’s a movement. We bring the bold, soulful flavors of the African diaspora and fuse them into American classics, creating dishes that are both familiar and refreshingly new.

Owner and chef Martel Posey, born and raised on the Southeast side of Grand Rapids, MI, discovered cooking as both a creative outlet and a way to connect with his roots. What began as a hobby soon grew into a passion for exploring the shared flavors across the African diaspora — flavors that tell stories of resilience, culture, and tradition.

Martel’s entrepreneurial journey took shape after working with Patty Matters, a Grand Rapids staple, where he sharpened his skills and learned firsthand the power of food to bring people together. From there, The Angry Chicken was born — an entrepreneurial leap grounded in heritage, creativity, and community.

At The Angry Chicken, we believe food is more than a meal — it’s an experience and a chance to give back. That’s why we proudly support our community through direct giving to local nonprofits and by showing up where culture, flavor, and connection collide.

When you pull up to The Angry Chicken, you’re not just grabbing a plate — you’re supporting a vision rooted in community, culture, and purpose. Come eat with us, taste the movement, and be part of the story.
